Mladen Tomorad was born in Zagreb in 1971. He completed his undergraduate studies (Shabtis in Dalmatia and Pannonia, 1997) and his master’s degree (Egyptian Antiquities in Croatian Historical Scholarship, 2001) at the Department of History, and earned his PhD (A Model for Computer Processing and Presentation of Ancient Egyptian Objects in Museum Collections in Croatia, 2006) at the Department of Information Sciences (Museology), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. He completed the Egyptology programme at the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Manchester (Shabtis from the Archaeological Museum in Zagreb, Croatia, 2009). From 2000 to 2011 he was employed as a research assistant at the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, and from April 2011 to February 2020 he worked as an assistant professor at the Department of History, University of Zagreb’s Centre for Croatian Studies. In March 2020 he was elected to the rank of associate professor at the Faculty of Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb.
His professional work focuses on the history of ancient Egypt and the general history of the ancient world, museology, applications of information technologies in historical research and history teaching, the history of the United States from the establishment of the first colonies to the end of the 19th century, as well as modern popular culture (music and film). He has participated in numerous academic conferences in Croatia and abroad. He is a member of the Croatian National Committee for Historical Sciences, the International Council of Museums (ICOM), CIPEG – International Committee for Egyptology, and the International Association of Egyptologists.
From early 1993 to the present, he has published more than 600 scholarly and professional works in the fields of historical and information sciences, as well as numerous textbooks and manuals for primary schools, grammar schools, and universities.

He was the editor-in-chief of the web portal Croato-Aegyptica Electronica [www.croato-aegyptica.hr; 2004–2014], and is currently the editor of the online historical journal Stara povijest [www.starapovijest.eu]. He also designed the websites of the Department of History, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb (2001), and the Department of History, Centre for Croatian Studies, University of Zagreb (2013).
